Gender equality? [Mar. 24th, 2009|10:37 pm]
Just a little ....thought journal.

Are we really striving towards 'gender equality' these days? Many girls, once including myself, pride themselves that they 'do not act like a girl'. The definition of gaining gender equality is to 'act like a man'. Because to be like a man is to be liberated.
Women must wear tomboy-ish clothes, drink beer in bars, laugh at sexist jokes, enjoy porn that's aimed at men and check out other hot girl's bums.
Men on the other hand, are encouraged not to change. They do not need to act like a woman. In fact, it's downright discouraged.
But what is so good about being a man and what is so bad about being a girl?
"Suck it up like a man"
"You cry like a girl"
See what's wrong here? It's "bad" to be a woman and "good" to be a man. If a woman wants to be treated equally, she must act like a man first.
I thought gender equality meant that both genders are viewed as equal no matter HOW they acted? If a woman wants to be a homemaker, why not? It's her choice. If a MAN wants to be a homemaker, again, why not?
The fact that we are letting our GENDER control our actions mean that gender equality has NOT been achieved.
You know what I think? I think we should embrace both our masculine and feminine traits. There is no true 'masculine' male or 'feminine' female. We're a ratio of both.
I admit that I do not like to wear skirts, do my nails or go shopping. But I LOVE stuffed animals, little sparkly twinklets and I go goo goo gaa gaa over the sight of cute animals.
What's so hard about that? Who cares if I act like a guy or a girl? I am me, I deserve the same amount of respect as everyone else.
Heck with gender, give yourself a hug today!
